TOPIC 1: Protecting Historical Monuments From the Threat of Natural Disasters

“Historical monuments are a critical part of cultural heritage and identity, yet they are increasingly at risk from the threat of natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and wildfires. These events can cause significant damage or destruction to monuments, leading to loss of cultural heritage and community identity. This committee highlights the need for effective strategies to protect historical monuments from natural disasters, including risk assessment, emergency preparedness plans, and appropriate engineering and conservation measures.”

TOPIC 2: The Preservation of Endangered Languages

“Endangered languages face significant threats from factors such as globalization, language shift, and inadequate documentation and preservation efforts. As these languages disappear, so too do unique cultural traditions, knowledge, and identities. This committee hopes to create effective language preservation strategies, including community-based efforts to revitalize and maintain endangered languages, documentation and archiving initiatives, and support for language education and literacy programs, to promote linguistic diversity and cultural heritage.”
