Dr. Cardentey completed his undergraduate studies in Humanities with a concentration in Hispanic Linguistics at the University of Havana. He also holds a master’s degree in Hispanic Philology from the Spanish National Research Council in Madrid, Spain. He worked as a research associate for the Institute of Literature and Linguistics in the Cuban Academy of Sciences, and as a copyeditor at Wifredo Lam Center for Contemporary Art. His articles and book reviews have been published in refereed journals such as Journal of Eastern Caribbean Studies, Alambique. Revista Académica de Ciencia Ficción y Fantasía, Anuario L/L. Estudios Literarios, and Cuban Studies. As an educator, Dr. Cardentey relies on a multiliteracies pedagogy to link language education and cultural studies so that students consistently develop an intercultural communication competence. By assigning creative projects with applicability to and relevance in the “real world,” he encourages students to associate classroom proficiency with professional success.
