Topic A: Examining Power Dynamics: How to Legitimize Regional Bodies on an International Scale
Topic B: Expanding Collaborative Efforts to Advance Peacekeeping Across Africa
Continuing the work the African states have done as they strive towards unity, delegates will be tasked with legitimizing/re-legitimizing African regional bodies, while also working together to work towards peace across the continent. When discussing Topic A, the African Union will focus on the strengths and weaknesses of various regional bodies across Africa, create plans to bring some Member States back into regional institutions, or ideate on brand new bodies to address the modern problems the continent is facing. All in all, delegates will be the catalysts for better coordination and collaboration amongst all African nations, to promote prosperity and partnership.
When discussing Topic B, delegates will be examining the current socioeconomic, political, and ethnic conflicts around Africa to identify the coordinated strategies across States to address division and strife. Delegates will also discuss the impact of various types of non-state actors and how they work with the public and the government to obtain and keep power. Furthermore, the African Union will explore past UN actions and interventions to critique past responses to conflict and create solutions beneficial to all stakeholders.
